Gandhinagar, Oct 17 A major fire broke out at a plastic manufacturing unit in Gandhinagar’s Kalol taluka on Saturday morning and dousing operations were underway for over eight hours, an official said.

No injuries have been reported.

The fire broke out at around 11 am at Singhal Industries in Moti Bhoyan village, said Kalol in-charge fire officer Aslam Chauhan.

“Efforts to douse the fire are underway, with personnel and firefighting vehicles from Kadi, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kalol and Mansa, along with Indian Air Force personnel, engaged in the operation. Even after more than eight hours, the fire is yet to be brought completely under control,” Chauhan told PTI.

No casualties have been reported so far, Kalol Deputy Superintendent of Police R M Sarode said.

A short-circuit is suspected to have started the fire.

The large quantities of polymers and solvents stored at the unit made it difficult to douse the blaze, officials said.
