Agartala, Oct 16 Two Bangladesh police personnel, who allegedly crossed into Tripura’s Sepahijala district while chasing suspected smugglers, were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday, an officer said.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Imran Hussain and Constable Rohit Dewan were posted at Brahmanpara police station in Bangladesh’s Cumilla district, state police spokesperson Rajdeep Deb said.
They allegedly entered Ashabari, a border village in Sepahijala’s Kalamchoura police station area, while pursuing suspected smugglers, he said.
The two were apprehended by locals and subsequently handed over to the BSF for further action, he added.
“They were later handed over to the Bangladesh authorities during a flag meeting between the BSF and BGB at Border Fencing Gate No. 49 under Rahimpur Border Outpost,” Deb said.
“The entire process was completed peacefully, and the situation remains normal, with surveillance continuing in the area,” he said.
