New Delhi, Oct 16 The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a protest at the Faculty of Arts at Delhi University on Friday, opposing what it termed “anarchic politics” and calling for respect for democratic institutions and constitutional norms.
The protest was held under the banner “Stop Anarchy, Embrace Democracy” amid debates over the role of the Election Commission and the fairness of the electoral process, the ABVP said in a statement.
The student organisation also criticised the politics of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), arguing that political differences should be addressed through dialogue and constitutional means rather than disorder.
ABVP Delhi state secretary Sarthak Sharma said the right to dissent was an essential part of democracy but should be exercised within the bounds of constitutional propriety.
“While questioning the nation’s democratic institutions is a part of the democratic process, fostering anarchy for the sake of political self-interest and sowing confusion among the public is unacceptable,” Sharma said.
Delhi University Students’ Union president Yash Dabas said the university was an important space for democratic ideas and discourse.
He said discussions concerning the Election Commission and other constitutional institutions should be based on facts, logic and a constitutional perspective.
The ABVP said the protest aimed to highlight the importance of peaceful democratic processes and maintaining the dignity of democratic institutions.
