Amaravati, Oct 16 Andhra Pradesh Special Chief Secretary for Youth Services, Tourism and Culture SS Rawat on Friday urged investors to seize emerging opportunities in the Amaravati region.

Addressing the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Regional Conference at a college in the greenfield capital city, Rawat said the region spans nine districts and contributes 35 per cent to the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), according to a press release.

Comprehensive growth plans had been drawn up for 2030, 2035 and 2047, focusing on sustainable and inclusive development, he said.

Rawat said 46 projects were under way in the region and 480 acres had been allocated for 26 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The capital region would benefit from direct connectivity with Machilipatnam Port, he said, adding that major upcoming projects included a Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) refinery in Prakasam district and a Bharat Dynamics unit in Donepudi. He highlighted vast opportunities in tourism as well.

Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Municipal Administration Department, said Amaravati was poised to become the state’s primary economic growth hub and its ‘crown jewel’.

Action plans integrating finance, investment, sustainable development and better living standards had been prepared, he said. Integrated infrastructure and high-speed rail connectivity were being developed, Kumar said.

Yuvaraj, Secretary of the Department of Industries, outlined upcoming developments, including ports, shipbuilding clusters and food processing clusters. He said the government was focusing on developing Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Tirupati as key economic growth centres.

Several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed later at the conference.
