Sonbhadra (UP), Oct 13 AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Tuesday claimed that deletion of 13.37 crore names from voter lists across the country has “directly benefitted the BJP” as he demanded cancellation of elections allegedly affected by irregularities and return to ballot papers.

Addressing a press conference in Karma village under Ghorawal assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district, he accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of centralising the electoral system and alleged that it was being operated to suit Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.

“The issue of vote theft in the country is extremely serious. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has deleted names of 13.37 crore voters across the country, directly benefiting the BJP,” Singh alleged.

He demanded that elections affected by alleged irregularities be cancelled and fresh polls held using ballot papers.

He also called for an impartial process for appointing election commissioners, arguing that neutrality would be difficult to ensure if the selection process remained under the government’s control.

Singh claimed that electoral officials were adding or deleting votes according to the BJP’s requirements and that 13 lakh voters were added in Uttar Pradesh without clarity on where they had come from.

He also alleged irregularities in applications seeking deletion of names from electoral rolls.

Citing an example, the Rajya Sabha member claimed that an application seeking deletion of 188 votes had been submitted in the name of a woman Reshma, but she could not be traced during verification.

He alleged that BJP workers were submitting applications to delete voters under fictitious names and demanded CEC Kumar be jailed over the alleged irregularities.

The AAP leader also referred to Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav’s claim that one person’s name had appeared on voter lists at 10 different locations.

The AAP MP said his party was holding workers’ conferences across Uttar Pradesh to convey a message to the state and central governments.

Targeting the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over education, he alleged that 26,000 schools have been shut in the name of merger and claimed that their buildings had turned into places where people consume alcohol.

“Education is a priority for the Aam Aadmi Party,” he said, accusing the governments led by Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of “neglecting education”.

He also slammed the state’s healthcare system, alleging that surgeries were being conducted in hospitals under candlelight and that medical facilities were in poor condition.

On infrastructure development, Singh said farmers in Sonbhadra had told him they did not need the proposed Vindhya Expressway, which passes through the district.

He alleged that fertile land belonging to 72 villages was being acquired at throwaway prices and said the AAP would launch a major agitation against the project in the coming days.

Asked whether the Supreme Court was acting in a one-sided manner, Singh slammed the pace of judicial proceedings, alleging that little beyond observations and repeated adjournments had been achieved.

He questioned the use of Form 6 in West Bengal, referring to the court’s reported observation that it had not approved the form’s use in the manner concerned.

Singh demanded the cancellation of the West Bengal election results, alleging that 27 lakh people had been deprived of their voting rights.

He further alleged that protests against the government were growing and changing in form, while repression was increasing.

He also accused BJP and RSS workers of tearing the clothes of women in the national capital, claiming that photographs and videos of the incident were available.
