Bongaon (WB), Oct 13 West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday slammed the previous Left and TMC governments over border security and implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act, while urging people to be wary of “bedbugs and cockroaches trying to weaken the country from within”.

Inaugurating Durga Puja in North 24 Parganas district’s Bongaon, Adhikari sought people’s deepened connection with religion, culture and tradition, and slammed “Dimagi Naxals raising slogans demanding freedom for Kashmir”.

“Several bedbugs and cockroaches are trying to weaken the country from within. We must be alert about them. ‘Dimagi Naxals’ are raising slogans demanding freedom for Kashmir, and we must be wary of them too. Everyone should unite to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.

Accusing previous governments of opposing CAA and failing to prioritise border security, the chief minister alleged that delays in providing land to the Border Security Force (BSF) had hampered efforts to strengthen security infrastructure along the state’s border with Bangladesh.

Adhikari said his government has accorded priority to border security and positioned CAA as a means of providing refuge to religious minorities facing persecution in Bangladesh.

He claimed that 12,000 puja committees were denied permission to hold Durga Puja in 2025 when the Trinamool Congress was in power. Those committees have received permission this year, Adhikari said.

Adhikari said people have voted the BJP to power with high expectations. “Fulfilling those expectations would remain a key priority of my government,” he added.
