New Delhi, Oct 13 The Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) on Tuesday announced the names of its office-bearers and members of various committees elected following the elections held on October 10.
Advocate Nitin Ahlawat was elected chairman of the council, while advocate Sanjeeta Sondhi was named vice chairman. Advocate Balbir Singh Jakhar and advocate Ramit Sherawat were elected chairman and honorary secretary respectively of the Executive Committee.
Advocate Rahul Sharma and senior advocate Murari Tiwari were appointed members of the Enrolment Committee.
The council also ensured mandatory representation of women lawyers among its office-bearers and committee members.
The BCD declared the results of the 2026 elections in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions dated August 14. The results have been made subject to the outcome of petitions pending before the election tribunals.
In 2025, the Supreme Court had directed that 30 per cent of seats in State Bar Councils be reserved for women lawyers.
It had also directed high courts to ensure that women constitute at least 30 per cent of the members involved in electing the governing or executive bodies of bar associations.
The court had further authorised district judges to nominate women to executive committees where a sufficient number of women members were available but had not contested the elections.
