Panaji, Oct 18 Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday took part in the party’s ‘Goy Rakhon Yatra’ in Margao, walking two kilometres with workers and leaders.

Gandhi, who arrived at Dabolim airport in the afternoon to take part in the mass outreach programme, will later address a public gathering at Margao Cricket Club (MCC) ground.

He was joined in the yatra by AICC Goa desk in-charge Manikrao Thakare, co-in-charge Dr Anjali Nimbalkar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Goa Pradesh Congress committee president Girish Chodankar, among others.

The 27-day-long ‘Goy Rakhon Yatra’, led by Alemao and Chodankar, began on September 22 and culminated on Sunday.

It covered all 40 Assembly constituencies in the coastal state with the aim of strengthening the Congress’ grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 assembly polls.

The party said the ‘Goy Rakhon Yatra’ (campaign to protect Goa) is a movement to safeguard the state’s land, environment, cultural heritage and identity.

During the campaign, the party raised concerns over land conversion, alleged land grabbing, unemployment, corruption, public safety and the preservation of Goa’s distinctive social and cultural identity.

It also sought to engage with local communities and bring development-related concerns to the forefront of the political debate.

The campaign comes ahead of the 2027 Goa assembly elections, with the Opposition party seeking to strengthen its grassroots presence and mobilise support across constituencies, including those represented by the ruling BJP.
