Bengaluru, Oct 17 Strong corporate governance and stakeholder trust are essential for companies to sustain growth, Infosys co-founder S D Shibulal said on Saturday.

Addressing the first edition of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India’s (ICSI) Invest India Summit in Bengaluru, Shibulal said companies could not last unless they adhered to high standards of corporate governance and developed trust among stakeholders.

“Capital is important, but what we will build from that investment is far more important. No company can last unless it follows the highest levels of corporate governance and develops the highest level of trust with stakeholders,” he said.

He urged professionals to act as a guiding voice in boardrooms to ensure the holistic development of stakeholders.

The summit, organised by the ICSI’s Bengaluru Chapter on the theme “Building a Viksit Bharat Through Strategic Investments”, brought together startups, MSMEs, investors, corporates and other industry stakeholders to discuss investment opportunities, innovation and business growth, organisers said.

Around 500 participants attended the event virtually and in person. An interactive session on practical insights from investors and successful startups was also held, a statement issued by ICSI said.

ICSI Secretary Asish Mohan said investments were not merely capital but a catalyst for ideas, technological advancement and sustainable growth towards building a stronger Viksit Bharat.
