Hajipur (Bihar), Oct 16 Bihar’s Vaishali district administration on Friday transferred Raghopur Circle Officer Deepak Kumar and assigned additional charge to Patepur Circle Officer Prabhat Kumar following a recent boat capsize in which 13 people were killed.
According to an official order issued by District Magistrate Varsha Singh, Kumar has been deputed to the District Public Grievance Cell in Vaishali until further orders, while Prabhat has been directed to take charge immediately and ensure the timely disposal of circle-related work.
The incident took place on Tuesday night when around 20 people from Rampur Shyamchand village in Raghopur circle were crossing the Ganga River to attend a feast in a village on the opposite bank.
Thirteen people, all below 15 years of age and 13 of them from the same family, died and six were saved in night-long rescue operations.
Although it was a private boat hired by villagers for the ride, show-cause notices were issued to the SHO of Raghopur police station and the circle officer concerned for failing to prevent so many children from undertaking a dangerous journey in the middle of the night.
