Imphal, Oct 16 Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam on Friday said differences among communities in the state could be resolved only through dialogue and not through the use of arms.
Speaking on the sidelines of a programme, Konthoujam said peace could be achieved only through negotiations, stressing the need to bridge the trust deficit among communities.
“Peace is brought only through negotiations and not through the barrel of the gun. We must come to an understanding and engage in talks. We must gradually try to erase the trust deficit among us. Security alone cannot do it,” he said.
“All the residents of Manipur are brothers and sisters. We must come to the table and resolve our differences,” he added.
The minister said the government had made efforts to facilitate dialogue and had also brought stakeholders together for talks.
“The government has tried, and we have sat together for talks as well,” he said.
He also said that due to better communication facilities, armed miscreants often flee a village before an operation by security forces is conducted.
