Guwahati, Oct 15 Asserting that there would be no compromise on India’s unity and security, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday said the country would continue its development journey under Prime Minister Narendra Modi despite attempts by “divisive forces” to spread misinformation.
Leading a ‘Jan Jagaran Rally’ in Dibrugarh, Sonowal said the march reflected the collective resolve to safeguard the country’s interests and strengthen national unity.
“Nation First, Always! Joined thousands of dedicated karyakartas and citizens at BJP’s Jan Jagaran Rally in Dibrugarh, where we reiterated our collective resolve: zero compromise on India’s unity, sovereignty and security,” he said in a social media post.
He alleged that divisive forces were spreading misinformation and undermining national progress, but said India was moving towards the goal of a developed nation under Modi’s leadership.
The state BJP launched a statewide ‘Jan Jagaran Rally’ on Tuesday, accusing the opposition INDIA bloc of attempting to destabilise the country through agitations and allegations against the judiciary and constitutional institutions.
Similar rallies were held in Dibrugarh, Tezpur and Barpeta Road on Thursday, the third day of the campaign.
Sonowal, a former Assam chief minister, criticised the Congress, accusing it of undermining democratic institutions during the Emergency imposed in 1975.
“The Congress is the perennial adversary of India. The Congress party is a destroyer of democracy,” he said, alleging that the party had sought to dismantle the country’s legal framework, constitutional institutions and democratic foundations during the Emergency.
At Barpeta Road, state BJP president Dilip Saikia led the rally and called for collective efforts to strengthen national unity.
He alleged that “destructive forces” were attempting to destabilise the country and had joined hands with foreign forces hostile to India.
“Our march is for the nation, in defence of its interests and against destructive forces,” Saikia said, adding that people continued to stand firmly with Modi.
In Tezpur, state Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal, MP Ranjit Dutta and other local leaders led a procession through the town.
Singhal said the rally demonstrated the commitment of Sonitpur’s youth to national ideals and development, and accused forces seeking to divide society of attempting to obstruct the country’s progress.
The statewide campaign will continue till October 31 and is aimed at mobilising public opinion against the Congress over its opposition to the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
