Thiruvananthapuram/New Delhi, Oct 14 Idukki MP Dean Kuriakose on Wednesday sought the Centre’s intervention to bring home the mortal remains of Nova Sabu, an Indian woman who died in a fire at an apartment building in Germany.

Kollam MP N K Premachandran has also approached the Union government following reports that another woman from his constituency was affected by the incident.

According to reports, three Indian nationals were killed in a fire at a residential building in the German city of Bochum, local media reported on Wednesday.

The victims were two women aged 25 and 27, and a 26-year-old man, all Indian nationals, German public broadcaster WDR (Westdeutscher Rundfunk) reported, citing details released by Bochum police.

In a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Kuriakose sought urgent assistance to repatriate the mortal remains of Nova, 25, a native of Idukki district.

Quoting her family members, the MP said Nova died in a fire at an apartment building in Germany on Tuesday morning.

He said her family was deeply distressed and that she had no immediate family members or close relatives in Germany to coordinate with local authorities and complete the necessary formalities.

Kuriakose urged Jaishankar to direct the Indian diplomatic missions in Germany to coordinate with local authorities for completing the post-mortem procedures and obtaining the necessary clearances for the early repatriation of her mortal remains to Nedumkandam in Idukki district.

Meanwhile, Premachandran has sought the Centre’s intervention after receiving information that a woman from his constituency was among those affected by the fire.
