Panaji, Oct 14 Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said legal action would be taken against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters, who were heard shouting “Hindutva Muradabad” slogans during a protest in Panaji over the weekend.
A video of CJP volunteers shouting ‘Hindutva Murdabad’ (Down with Hindutva) slogans during the protest held in Panaji on Sunday has surfaced online. The protest was organised to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
“I have seen the social media post (video). I have asked them (police) to conduct an investigation. The required legal action would be taken against them (CJP members),” Sawant said.
He alleged attempts were being made to create communal discord.
“I can see protesters were attempting to foment communal disharmony. You all should also see that,” Sawant told media persons, asking them to condemn such incidents.
The Chief Minister, who holds the Home portfolio, warned such attempts would not be tolerated by his government.
Reacting to the video, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Tanavade questioned why such slogans were raised during the CJP protest, which was organised on the SIR issue.
“The BJP is getting mandate of people everywhere (in polls). But these people want to create disturbances and that is why such slogans were raised,” Tanavade maintained.
If they wanted to speak on the Special Intensive Revision, then they should stick to the issue, he insisted.
During the anti-CEC stir, the protesters were stopped near Azad Maidan in the Goa capital by authorities and seven of them were detained by police.
