Kolkata, Oct 14 The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday directed TMC MP Mahua Moitra to file a supplementary affidavit in connection with her plea seeking enhanced security cover, after her lawyer claimed that a PSO was not accompanying her as required.

Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya directed Moitra to file the affidavit within one week after the Durga Puja vacation and fixed December 2 for the next hearing.

The court also allowed Moitra’s lawyer, Arko Kumar Nag, to add the Union Home Ministry as a party respondent in the petition.

Appearing for the West Bengal government, Additional Advocate General Rajdeep Majumdar submitted that Moitra, being a member of Parliament, is an X-category protectee and is provided one PSO as per protocol.

Justice Bhattacharyya said the Krishnanagar MP would have to demonstrate why she required enhanced security cover.

Both Majumdar and Nag submitted that the Union Home Ministry should be made a party to the petition.

In an earlier order on a separate petition filed by Moitra, the high court had directed the state government to provide two police personnel for her security whenever she visits her constituency, in view of allegations that she had faced egg-pelting and harassment during such visits.

Nag claimed that the personal security officer (PSO) assigned to Moitra did not accompany her as required.
