New Delhi, Oct 14 The Indian Youth Congress on Wednesday erected hoardings in central Delhi as it sought to step up its campaign demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The hoardings installed outside the Congress headquarters at 24 Akbar Road, Indira Bhawan and the Indian Youth Congress’ (IYC) national office carry the slogan “Shiv ki Baraat” (Lord Shiva’s wedding procession).
The imagery draws on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s description of the Opposition rally against Kumar, wherein he invoked Lord Shiva’s “tandav” (cosmic dance) to signal an intensification of the political challenge to Kumar.
The opposition INDIA bloc has repeatedly protested against the SIR exercise, questioning the way it is conducted and raising concerns over the voter list revision process. Opposition leaders have also demanded Kumar’s resignation, alleging that the Election Commission’s functioning has undermined the credibility of the electoral process.
Through the hoardings, the organisation sought to carry its protest message beyond the streets and to wider public attention, the Congress’ youth wing said in a statement.
Delhi Youth Congress president Akshay Lakra said the organisation would continue to question the functioning and credibility of the Election Commission of India.
The IYC said it would continue its campaign through democratic means and public mobilisation, stressing the need to protect electoral institutions and democratic rights.
