Chennai, Oct 9 Despite ongoing opposition protests in Delhi demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over SIR, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will visit Chennai on October 10 as planned, TNCC chief Manickam Tagore said on Friday.

Congress leaders also said a massive number of students — between 1 to 1.5 lakh — have registered via QR code to connect with the program directly or indirectly.

Addressing a joint press conference with senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir here, Tagore stated that while opposition leaders are converging in the national capital, Gandhi remains steadfast on his scheduled outreach in Tamil Nadu.

“While all MPs are gathering to meet the President at 8 pm tonight regarding the continuous protests in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi is keeping the date and the word he gave. He is arriving tomorrow,” Tagore said.

The interactive session will focus heavily on grievances stemming from the central education system, particularly the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), as well as mounting unemployment among educated youth, women’s empowerment, and the preservation of regional language and culture, he added.

To ensure the spotlight remains strictly on the youth, organisers have implemented stringent protocols.

Tagore clarified that parents and the general public are barred from the venue.

“This is happening professionally. No politicians will be allowed in the main area; only 300 to 400 political leaders will be permitted through a separate entrance. Entry for students is strictly through registered QR codes, with separate, secure seating for girls and boys,” he added.

Senior Congress Mir, who also addressed the press conference, termed the upcoming visit a historical occasion and a golden opportunity for the people of Tamil Nadu.

“I think this is the only platform available in the nation where students can highlight their grievances with the system,” Mir said.

According to him, between 1 and 1.5 lakh students have already registered to connect with the programme, either directly or indirectly.

Appealing to the youth to participate freely and express their views on NEET and employment opportunities, Mir assured them that their voices would yield future results.

“Because he is the Leader of the Opposition, if he is listening to the students tomorrow, definitely your concerns will be addressed,” Mir said.
