Imphal, Oct 13 BSF Director General Praveen Kumar on Tuesday held discussions with Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on the prevailing law and order situation in the strife-torn state.

The meeting assumes significance amid a fresh wave of violence in the state last week in which at least nine people were killed in separate firing incidents in three hill districts on Friday and Saturday.

Khemchand, in a social media post, said, “Praveen Kumar, Director General, Border Security Force (BSF), called on me at my Secretariat, Babupara.”

Kumar was accompanied by BSF Eastern Command Additional Director General Sumit Sharan and BSF Inspector General Ravi Kant of Frontier Headquarters (Mizoram, Cachar).

“We deliberated on the prevailing law and order situation in the state. We also discussed matters pertaining to the forthcoming BSF Raising Day celebrations,” the CM added.

He lauded the BSF for its dedicated service and invaluable role towards maintaining peace, security and border management.

More than 50 people have been killed and dozens of houses torched in violence between Kuki and Naga tribes since February this year.

The state had earlier witnessed ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and adjoining hills-based Kukis, in which over 300 people were killed, while 49 remained missing, and thousands were rendered homeless.
