Guwahati, Oct 13 Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday stressed the importance of ‘Samanvay’ (coordination), ‘Suraksha’ (security) and ‘Samvedna’ (compassion) in protecting lives, strengthening disaster preparedness and fostering a resilient society.

He also paid tribute to the brave personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation, stating that their courage and selflessness would continue to inspire generations.
”The CRPF and NDRF play crucial and complementary roles in safeguarding the nation. Security forces remain at the forefront of maintaining internal security and law and order while disaster response teams work tirelessly to rescue people and provide relief during emergencies,” he said.
The governor lauded the CRPF’s distinguished legacy of courage, discipline and commitment to duty.
He also appreciated the contribution of its women personnel, whose professionalism and dedication reflect the strength of women’s empowerment and equal opportunity.
The force’s participation in international missions has also contributed to India’s standing in global peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts, he said.
Referring to the vulnerability of different regions to natural calamities, the governor said that earthquakes, floods, and landslides underscore the need for robust preparedness and swift, coordinated action.
Recalling the recent floods that affected Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts, he hailed the efforts of the NDRF, SDRF, police and other agencies involved in rescue and relief operations.
Pointing out that disaster management begins well before a crisis occurs, the governor called for greater public awareness, regular mock drills and stronger coordination among emergency response agencies.
He urged educational institutions to promote disaster preparedness and community service so that young people develop discipline, sound decision-making skills and the confidence to assist others during emergencies.
The governor further called upon the youth to channelise their knowledge and skills in science, technology, innovation and social service towards nation-building.
”A culture of preparedness, a strong sense of responsibility and sensitivity towards fellow citizens are essential to building a secure, self-reliant and disaster-resilient India,” he said.
The programme featured a demonstration of a disaster management mock drill by the NDRF, showcasing emergency response procedures and the importance of coordinated action during disasters.
The governor also visited exhibition stalls set up by the NDRF, which showcased its equipment, rescue tools and disaster management capabilities.
He later interacted with the participating students and encouraged them to cultivate awareness about disaster preparedness, emergency response and their responsibilities towards society.
