Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 9 Chief Minister of Keralam V D Satheesan on Friday said that the state should not be “penalised” by the Centre for its accomplishments in the health sector by denying it the benefit of an AIIMS.

Satheesan was replying to reporters’ queries, at a press conference here regarding the Centre recently telling the Kerala High Court that states with weaker health infrastructure were being prioritised for setting up an AIIMS and Keralam’s health sector was good.

“Keralam’s accomplishments should not be used against us. We should not be penalised for it. Our accomplishments should be acknowledged to help us improve even more. The fact that our health indicators are good, should not be a negative for us,” he said.

The CM said that this approach of the Centre has to be stopped.

“We have told several central ministers this when we met them,” he added.

He said that Keralam’s achievements should become a model for the country and the state should progress even further.

“Help for that is what we need,” Satheesan said.
