New Delhi, Oct 5 AAP leader Manish Sisodia questioned the changes made to Form 6 by the Election Commission, saying Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar had not obtained the Supreme Court’s permission for the modifications, after the apex court on Monday clarified that it had not approved any such changes.

“The Supreme Court has clearly said Gyanesh Kumar did not get permission to change Form 6,” Sisodia said here.

He said the court’s clarification is significant as the Election Commission (EC) had stated in an earlier press release that the changes had been ratified by the Supreme Court.

Sisodia said the matter raised questions over the process through which these changes were made, and demanded action against CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

Form 6 is an application through which an eligible person seeks inclusion in electoral roll.

The Supreme Court on Monday said it had not approved any modifications to the Form 6 being used by EC during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in various states.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant and comprising Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana said, “Any modification to Form 6 has not been approved by us,” and said it wanted to see who had modified the form when the records were produced.

The bench was hearing a PIL filed in the wake of a recent report published in The Indian Express which claimed that two of the three election commissioners had objected to decisions related to the SIR, including changes to Form 6 concerning the applicant’s ancestry and link to the previous SIR.

Sisodia alleged that these changes could affect the process of inclusion of names in electoral rolls and said the AAP would continue to raise the issue.
