Jaipur, Oct 13 Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the alleged assault on an RSS functionary at a police station in Jaipur and sought CCTV footage, police records and a detailed report on the incident.
In an order issued on Tuesday, commission chairman Justice G R Moolchandani directed the inspector general of police, Jaipur range, Superintendent of Police, Jaipur Rural and district magistrate, Jaipur to submit the relevant records.
The commission sought CCTV footage from Naraina police station for the period between 8 am on October 11 and 8 am on October 12, along with a certified copy of the station’s general diary for the same period.
It also asked for the injured person’s medical records and details of any case or preventive action registered against him during that period.
The directions came after RSS district pracharak Krishna Avtar was allegedly beaten up at Naraina police station and subsequently referred to Jaipur’s SMS Hospital in serious condition.
The commission observed that allegations of assault on a person in police custody were serious and that suspension of the personnel concerned alone did not appear sufficient.
It said police personnel found responsible for unlawful conduct should face disciplinary and legal action and, depending on the findings of the investigation, could also be dismissed from service.
The commission asked the inspector general of police to have the incident investigated by an officer of the rank of superintendent of police and submit a written report along with his observations.
According to police, the incident occurred late Saturday night following an altercation between police personnel and two men associated with the RSS. The two men were taken to Naraina police station, where they were allegedly assaulted.
Following the incident, police personnel, including SHO Umrao Gurjar, were suspended and a case was registered against personnel accused of assault.
Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari visited SMS Hospital in Jaipur to enquire about the condition of the injured RSS functionary.
Speaking to reporters, she said an “impartial” investigation was going on and strict action would be taken against those found guilty. “No one is above the law,” she said.
