Nahan (HP), Oct 13 Congress leadership must clarify its position regarding allegations of sexual harassment involving Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who represents Inner Manipur in the Lok Sabha, BJP state president Rajiv Bindal said on Tuesday.
He said complaints made by women at Jawaharlal Nehru University and the subsequent disciplinary action taken by the varsity raised serious questions requiring a transparent response.
Bindal asked the Congress leadership to explain what organisational steps it had taken following the allegations against its MP.
He said that during BJP Mahila Morcha demonstrations across Himachal Pradesh, women workers burnt effigies of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam.
The protests showed strong anger among women workers, who raised slogans against the Congress leadership and demanded accountability, protection for complainants and an impartial investigation.
“Making speeches about women’s dignity is easy, but ensuring accountability when serious allegations emerge against a member of one’s own party is the real test of leadership,” Bindal said.
He emphasised that the allegations should be investigated impartially and that strict legal action must follow if wrongdoing is established.
