New Delhi, Oct 13 : Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been appointed assistant and batting coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2027 season. The appointment marks his first coaching role in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and brings him together with former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who was recently named the franchise’s head coach.
Delhi Capitals announced the appointment on Tuesday, October 13. The franchise is hoping that Yuvraj’s international experience, batting expertise and mentoring skills will help strengthen the team ahead of the upcoming IPL season.
Yuvraj Singh Excited About New Role at Delhi Capitals
Yuvraj Singh expressed his excitement about joining Delhi Capitals and beginning a new chapter in his cricket career.
He said he already has a strong association with the franchise and knows its owners well, making the opportunity special for him.
Yuvraj also welcomed the chance to work with Sourav Ganguly, popularly known as Dada. The former India teammates will now join forces as coaches to guide the Delhi Capitals squad.
Yuvraj said coaching is something he is passionate about and expressed confidence in the team’s talented players. He also looked forward to contributing to the franchise’s success in IPL 2027.
Yuvraj Singh’s Previous Connection With Delhi Capitals
Yuvraj Singh has previously represented the Delhi franchise as a player. In 2015, Delhi Daredevils, the team’s former name, bought him for Rs 16 crore at the IPL auction.
At the time, the deal made Yuvraj the most expensive player in IPL history. He played all 14 matches for the franchise during that season.
His return as an assistant and batting coach brings him back to a team he knows well. The franchise will hope his experience as a match-winning batter can help its players perform consistently.
Yuvraj Singh’s Experience in Mentoring Young Indian Cricketers
Yuvraj Singh has mentored several established and emerging Indian cricketers in recent years. His guidance has been associated with players such as India captain Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has also sought Yuvraj’s advice during a difficult period in his career.
This mentoring experience could prove valuable for Delhi Capitals, particularly as the team looks to improve its batting performances and develop young talent.
Parth Jindal Welcomes Yuvraj Singh
Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed Yuvraj Singh to the franchise.
Jindal described Yuvraj as one of Indian cricket’s greatest match-winners and highlighted his contribution to mentoring young players.
He said Yuvraj’s experience, winning mentality and ability to connect with cricketers would be valuable assets for the team. Jindal also expressed enthusiasm about seeing Yuvraj work alongside Sourav Ganguly and the rest of the coaching staff.
Rishabh Pant Returns to Delhi Capitals
Former Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant is also back with the franchise following a high-profile player trade involving Lucknow Super Giants.
As part of the deal, wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav moved in the opposite direction. Pant’s return adds another significant development to Delhi Capitals’ preparations for the 2027 season.
The combination of experienced players, young talent and a strengthened coaching staff could play an important role in the team’s campaign.
Delhi Capitals Aim for First IPL Title
Delhi Capitals are still waiting to win their maiden IPL title. The franchise reached the final once, in the 2020 season, but finished without the trophy.
The team also failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last two seasons, increasing the importance of a strong campaign in 2027.
With Sourav Ganguly as head coach and Yuvraj Singh taking charge as assistant and batting coach, Delhi Capitals will look to improve their performances and compete strongly for the title.
The franchise is jointly owned by the GMR Group and JSW Group. The two groups manage the team on a rotating two-year cycle, with GMR’s management tenure ending in 2026.
Yuvraj’s appointment is an important step in Delhi Capitals’ preparations for IPL 2027, as the team looks to combine experience, player development and a winning mindset in its pursuit of its first championship.
