Bhadohi (UP), Oct 13 A 40-year-old woman here was allegedly blackmailed and sexually exploited for nearly two years after her private videos were apparently extracted from her mobile phone during repairs, and later circulated online, police said on Tuesday.
The woman alleged that the videos were extracted from her mobile phone after she gave it for repairs at a shop in January 2024. The accused allegedly used the videos to blackmail and sexually exploit her, while threatening to kill her family if she approached police, officials said.
A case was registered on Monday against six persons, including a doctor and a mobile repair shop owner, under sections 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and provisions of the Information Technology Act, based on the woman’s complaint and screenshots of the said videos, police said.
Suriyawan Station House Officer Manoj Kumar said the woman has alleged that three men obtained several videos from her phone after she left it for repairs at a shop owned by Devi Lal in January 2024. They allegedly refused to delete the videos, blackmailed her, sexually exploited her and threatened to kill her family if she approached the police.
The woman had initially approached police on January 3, 2024, after one of her videos surfaced on social media, but alleged that no action was taken then, the officer said.
The video was allegedly circulated again on August 28 this year by one Kuldeep Kumar Bind, followed by repeated circulation by Dheeraj Kumar Bind, a doctor, who allegedly pressured the woman for sexual favours, police said.
The six accused have been identified as Dheeraj Kumar Bind, Kuldeep Bind, Tribhuvan Bind, Ajay Kumar Bind, Ajay Kumar Chauhan and Devi Lal.
Police said Devi Lal closed his shop and fled before officers reached on Monday evening. Efforts are underway to trace the accused.
