Kanpur (UP), Oct 13 Two masked robbers allegedly held Uttar Pradesh BJP’s OBC Morcha office bearer Ramesh Yadav hostage and decamped with Rs 15 lakh in cash and two gold chains from his farmhouse in Sen-Paschim Para area here, a police official said on Tuesday.
The robbery took place on Monday night and a case has been registered.
Around 14 staff members, including four security guards, four gunmen and a driver, have been rounded up for questioning, Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal told PTI on Tuesday.
The masked robbers tied Yadav’s hands and legs before fleeing with the cash, and the two gold chains he was wearing. The BJP leader later managed to free himself and alerted the local police about the incident.
Police are investigating the role of an insider. However, no conclusion has been reached so far, Lal said.
“CCTV recordings have been recovered, but no suspect is clearly visible. We are examining some suspicious activity near the boundary wall (of the farm house) for possible clues,” Lal said.
Around six police teams led by Deputy CP (South) Deependra Nath Chaudhary, additional DCP Areeba Noman and ACP Krishnakant Yadav have been formed to crack the case.
