Aizawl, Oct 12 : Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday laid the foundation stone for an office building of the Mizo Students’ Union here on a plot of land allotted by the state government, officials said.

Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Lalduhoma said the union was among the important organisations in the state that did not have its own land and office premises.

“Most of the important organisations have their own land and offices, but the MSU was among those that did not have either,” he said, adding that the government wanted such organisations to have a stable base.

He said the Ainawn area, where the building will come up, had originally been planned as government land during the tenure of former chief minister Brig T Sailo, but it was not subsequently pursued properly.

After his government came to power, efforts were made to utilise the government land there, he said.

“As part of this effort, we have allotted this plot to the MSU,” Lalduhoma said.

He said the government would also arrange funds to construct the MSU office building.

MSU president B Lalkhawngaihzuala said the organisation had been trying for years to secure land and an office of its own.

“Because of the CM’s support, the MSU has finally received the land,” he said, adding that the organisation needed not only land but also a building.
