New Delhi, Oct 9: Indian Railways has cancelled select Mail and Express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 AM and 2 PM on October 10. The decision was taken due to unexpected road traffic between the two stations, according to a Railway Board circular.
The cancellations will affect trains that depart from their originating stations after 2 PM on October 9 and are scheduled to reach either New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin between 4 AM and 2 PM the following day.
Which Trains Have Been Cancelled?
According to the Railway Board circular, the affected Mail and Express trains will be cancelled at their originating stations.
The circular stated that trains departing after 2 PM on October 9 and scheduled to arrive at New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 AM and 2 PM on October 10 would not operate.
Passengers planning to travel to Delhi during this period should check their train status before starting their journey. They should also confirm cancellation details through official Indian Railways channels.
Why Has Indian Railways Cancelled These Trains?
The Railways cited unexpected road traffic between New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations as the reason for the cancellations.
The decision comes ahead of a planned protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital on Saturday. The protest has been announced by the Cockroach Janata Party, which is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Delhi Metro Stations May Face Restrictions
Ahead of the protest, Delhi Police has urged the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to shut 57 metro stations. The move is aimed at restricting the movement of young people who may travel to join the demonstration.
The proposed metro restrictions and the railway cancellations come amid preparations for the protest. However, the Railway Board’s circular specifically cites unexpected road traffic between the two railway stations as the reason for cancelling the selected trains.
Advice for Railway Passengers
Passengers travelling to New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin on October 10 should verify their train schedules before leaving for the station. Those whose trains are cancelled should check official railway announcements for further travel information.
Travellers should also monitor updates from Delhi Metro and local authorities regarding any restrictions that could affect their journeys.
The cancellations apply to selected Mail and Express trains meeting the specified departure and arrival conditions. They do not indicate that all trains to Delhi have been cancelled.
