Chennai, Oct 8 The TVK on Thursday claimed that the post-settlement GST revenue received by Tamil Nadu has increased by 16.1 percent, accusing the opposition DMK of carrying out a “half-baked propaganda” over the revenue collection figures to mislead the public.
In a statement posted on X, the TVK IT Wing official accused the DMK of “resorting to a misinformation campaign” on Tamil Nadu’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection figures to mislead the public out of political malice.
It asserted that the recent official clarification from the state government has completely exposed the DMK’s false narrative regarding a alleged 5 percent decline in GST revenue.
The TVK pointed out that those attempting to paint a picture of economic slowdown and administrative failure were selectively highlighting Gross GST figures while ignoring the complete financial picture.
“The official data has delivered a sharp blow to those who tried to deceive the public by showing only the Gross GST figures,” the TVK IT Wing stated.
“The Finance Secretary of Tamil Nadu himself has now clarified that the actual post-settlement GST revenue accruing to Tamil Nadu has risen by 16.1 percent,” it said.
Explaining the technical context behind state revenue figures, the party noted that in manufacturing and distribution hubs like Tamil Nadu, factors such as Integrated GST (IGST) settlements significantly influence the Gross GST numbers. Therefore, post-settlement GST data serves as the true indicator when evaluating the state’s actual fiscal standing.
“The true motive of those making noise out of political animosity has been thoroughly exposed. False propaganda can never defeat the truth,” the post said.
