Hyderabad, Oct 7 Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has condemned the detention of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other opposition leaders following their march towards the EC office and day-long protest in Delhi, terming the detentions “unlawful” and a reflection of hubris from a “failing” government.
The BJP-led NDA government is scared of the struggle led by Rahul Gandhi to save India, its Constitution and safeguard the voting rights of people, he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Drawing parallels, Revanth Reddy compared the current crackdown to the British government’s arrest of freedom fighters like Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi, Pundit Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and Subhas Chandra Bose on flimsy grounds.
“But as millions of citizens, especially youth, have become a part of the struggle to save voting rights, democracy and the country’s future, such actions shall not deter the opposition, but rather inadvertently, actually strengthen us,” the CM said.
“The ‘British Janata Party’ can rest assured. We are not going away from our determination and the resolve to stake everything for the sake of the country. India shall fight till its last ounce of ability, and till democratic forces led by Rahul Gandhi triumph,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were among the around 250 people detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday night following an over eight-hour sit-in protest inside the Akashvani Bhawan premises, after they were stopped from marching towards the Election Commission’s office in Delhi.
