New Delhi, Oct 5: Delhi Police ACP Vivek Bhagat, who has been accused of sexually harassing a woman journalist during a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, has been promoted to the rank of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Additional DCP).
According to an official order issued on Monday, Bhagat was among 12 Delhi Police officers promoted to the higher rank.
The promotion comes days after allegations of sexual harassment were made against Delhi Police officers during a protest against the Election Commission at Jantar Mantar on October 3.
Three women journalists have reportedly accused Delhi Police personnel of sexual harassment during the protest. The complaints have been received by the Delhi Police and forwarded to the Crime Branch for further enquiry.
The allegations are currently under investigation, and the complaints have not yet been established as proven.
The protest at Jantar Mantar was held against the Election Commission and CEC Gyanesh Kumar. The allegations involving police personnel have since raised concerns over the treatment and safety of journalists covering political protests in the national capital.
The Crime Branch is expected to examine the complaints and conduct further enquiry into the allegations against the officers.
