Lucknow, Sep 26 Amid continuous heavy rainfall across Uttar Pradesh, the state government has intensified vigilance to ensure uninterrupted power supply and directed officials to promptly address local faults.
Principal Secretary (Energy) and Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation chairman Ranveer Prasad has directed officials of all distribution corporations, including LESA, to continuously monitor the power system and ensure that local faults are rectified at the earliest, the state government said in a statement on Saturday.
Prasad said that in case of a disruption due to rainfall, field teams should immediately reach the site and complete repair work.
Information about local faults should also be communicated to consumers through available communication channels, he said.
In view of the possibility of electrical accidents during rainfall, officials have been directed to strictly adhere to safety standards and undertake maintenance work only with appropriate safety equipment, the statement said.
Unexpected heavy rainfall has led to an increase in power breakdowns across the state, with most faults attributed to trees or branches falling on power infrastructure, it said.
According to the Lucknow Control Room, reports have been received regarding the shutdown of 716 11-kV feeders and 173 33-kV substations, which are being continuously monitored, the statement said.
A 24-hour control room is operational at Shakti Bhawan, where six superintending engineers have been deployed.
The officers are coordinating with DISCOM control rooms to obtain information on local faults, field teams, availability of materials and power supply disruptions lasting more than 12 hours, it said.
Directions have also been issued for prompt resolution of complaints received through the 1912 helpline.
Due to the rainfall, power demand has declined from around 28,000 MW to below 16,000 MW, the statement said.
As a result of the reduced demand, the state has been freed from load shedding, with 24-hour power supply being provided from metropolitan cities to villages. Surplus electricity is being sold on the Power Exchange, it said.
The chairman appealed to consumers to immediately report any power-related incident or breakdown on the 1912 helpline.
