Lucknow, Sep 26 Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary on Saturday said the upcoming Legislative Council elections for teachers’ and graduates’ constituencies are a significant opportunity to showcase the party’s continuous engagement with the state’s educated, intellectual and graduate voters.
Chaudhary, who is also the Union Minister of State for Finance, along with Uttar Pradesh BJP general secretary (organisation) Dharampal Singh, held a meeting with party office-bearers and key leaders from the Awadh region to discuss preparations for the October 23 elections.
The meeting, held in Lucknow on Saturday, involved detailed discussions on the election strategy, voter outreach, booth and polling centre management, and ways to increase voter turnout, according to a party statement.
Special emphasis was placed on ensuring effective election management down to the booth level, it said.
Chaudhary said there is a perception among teacher and graduate voters that a large number of them do not turn up at polling stations on the voting day.
“This time, the organisation must change this trend through outreach and communication. No eligible teacher or graduate voter should be left out of this contact drive; every party worker must treat this as a personal responsibility,” Chaudhary said.
He emphasised that during public outreach, party workers should share information about the achievements of both the Central and state governments with voters.
Additionally, voters must be educated on the correct procedure for voting through ballot papers to prevent any votes from being declared invalid due to technical or procedural errors.
State BJP general secretary (organisation) Dharampal Singh said the party will contest the upcoming Legislative Council elections with the same level of preparedness, discipline and robust organisational strategy as it does for the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections.
The key to success in the upcoming elections lies in every organisational worker establishing direct contact and communication with the voters and in ensuring that they cast their votes.
He noted that the electoral area is vast while time is limited. Therefore, it is essential to accelerate election preparations and hold regular reviews of the work being done. Responsibilities must be clearly defined at the district, assembly constituency, and polling station levels, and their execution must be continuously monitored, Singh said.
Elections to 11 teachers’ and graduates’ seats of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council will be held on October 23. Counting of votes is scheduled on October 27.
The polls were announced as the tenures of the incumbent members in these constituencies will end on December 6.
