Palakkad (Keralam), Sep 26 Senior Congress leader M M Hassan on Saturday said UDF leaders in power should exercise caution while handling controversies and respond immediately when allegations arise.
Hassan was responding to questions about the controversy surrounding Chief Minister V D Satheesan’s chartered flight travel, which was allegedly sponsored by a private entity, and his refusal to answer the media’s questions on the issue.
Hassan said controversies were often created and amplified by people and that the government should handle such situations carefully.
He said UDF ministers and leaders should be careful not to give the opposition an opportunity to repeat allegations that its leaders had raised while they were in opposition.
“The things UDF leaders said while in opposition — we must ensure we do not give the current opposition room to repeat those against us. It is our responsibility to act with caution,” he told reporters.
Asked whether this meant there had been a lack of caution, Hassan said the issue should be handled carefully.
“It should be handled with caution. At the same time, when such controversies arise, a response should be given immediately,” he said.
Asked whether it was not right for the chief minister to avoid answering questions, Hassan said Satheesan had responded.
“The CM did respond,” he said.
Hassan also said Satheesan regularly interacted with the media.
“Isn’t the chief minister addressing the press on all matters? Isn’t he responding? He meets the press every Thursday after the Cabinet meeting. I listen to those briefings too,” he said.
Hassan said repeated questioning could lead to displeasure.
“When you keep asking the chief minister every moment, everyone will develop a sense of dissatisfaction. Everyone reacts in their own way,” he said.
