Kolkata, Sep 26 The intensity of rainfall across south Bengal is likely to decrease from Sunday as the weather system influencing it was moving away from the state, the IMD said.
The weather is expected to improve in the southern districts of West Bengal from Saturday afternoon, while most areas in the region are likely to remain largely dry from Sunday, with only isolated light showers accompanied by thunderstorms likely, the weather office said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), however, issued a ‘yellow’ alert (be aware), predicting heavy rainfall in Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri districts in north Bengal on Saturday.
Other districts of north Bengal may also witness thunderstorms and rainfall, but the intensity is likely to decrease from Sunday, it said.
From September 28 to October 1, only isolated light showers are likely in the hill areas of north Bengal, while the weather is expected to remain mostly dry elsewhere.
The sea, however, remains rough and gusty winds are likely along the coast.
In Kolkata, the sky remained partly cloudy on Saturday morning, with one or two spells of light to moderate rain witnessed in some areas. Weather conditions improved thereafter.
The depression over the Chhattisgarh-Madhya Pradesh region moved away from the state, the weather office said.
