Chandigarh, Sep 26 A 27-year-old man who had returned from a drug de-addiction centre was found dead near a drain in Sehjra village of Punjab’s Barnala district on Saturday, police said.
The deceased, identified as Baljinder Singh, was found lying face down near the drain in the Mehal Kalan assembly segment, they said.
A syringe was allegedly found inserted into his leg, police said, adding that the exact cause of death would be ascertained after a post-mortem examination.
Singh’s body was found by a villager, who informed his family, police said.
According to his family, Singh, who worked as an electrician, had been brought home from the de-addiction centre on Friday evening. He left home on Saturday morning but did not return.
Upon receiving information about the body, a police team reached the spot and sent it to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered in connection with the incident, police said.
