Kutch (Gujarat), Sep 26 Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said the Opposition has no work these days and hence it pursues any issue it can find.
Speaking at an event here, he also called Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi a “mad person”.
Sarma was addressing a press conference at DPA Exhibition Ground in Gujarat’s Gandhidham during the foundation stone laying ceremony for a 150 TPD e-methanol plant.
“There is not much work right now for Opposition parties. Only a few regions have their government. They have a lot of free time. So how do they utilise the time? Whatever issue they get hold of, they keep pursuing it. But…we do not need to worry too much about it. We should continue doing our work,” he said.
Responding to a reporter’s question on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of ‘vote chori’ (electoral malpractices) in Assam, Sarma said, “Isn’t he mad? Why are you asking me to comment on a mad person? I consider Rahul Gandhi a mad person.”
There was no point commenting on him, Sarma added.
Notably, Sarma was earlier with the Congress before joining the BJP.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and Sarma laid the foundation stone for the country’s first port-based e-methanol plant at Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla, Gandhidham.
The plant will provide green fuel for the future, Sarma said, adding that Assam Petrochemicals Limited, which produces 500 tonnes of methanol per day in Assam, will contribute to the development of the plant.
The plant was likely to be built within three years, he said.
