Leeds (England), Sep 24 (AP) Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and hit a 100-ball 121 in a team total of 321-6 in the second ODI against England at sunny Headingley on Thursday.
Two days after winning by 89 runs in the first ODI at Chester-le-Street, England will look to chase 322 and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Mendis’ seventh ODI century contained 14 fours and three sixes, with the captain putting on a 137-run partnership for the second wicket with opener Kamindu Mendis (54).
Pavan Rathnayake added 48 off 39 balls in the middle order.
The Sri Lankans are seeking a first win of their white-ball tour after losing the T20 series 3-0.
England selected an unchanged team, while Sri Lanka brought in Eshan Malinga to replace Dushmantha Chameera.
The final match of the series is at The Oval on Sunday.
