Ghazipur (UP), Sep 24 Three persons including a woman were arrested Thursday after more than a kilogram of heroin, valued over Rs 2 crore in the illicit market, was allegedly recovered from their possession, police said.
Superintendent of Police Dr Iraj Raja said Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) personnel and city police teams were conducting checks when they received information about the movement of an SUV allegedly carrying narcotics.
The teams subsequently cordoned of a section of the Gorakhpur-Varanasi highway in Maharajganj and intercepted the vehicle.
During a search, 1.15 kg of heroin was allegedly recovered from the possession of two men and a woman travelling in the vehicle, the SP said.
The contraband is said to be worth over Rs 2 crore, police said.
The arrestees have been identified as Rakesh Yadav alias Gama, Krishna Bihari alias Pintu Prajapati — residents of Ghazipur Kotwali area — and Reena Yadav of Mohammadabad Kotwali area. They have been booked under relevant provisions at Ghazipur police station, police added.
