Nagpur, Sep 24 Resident doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Nagpur on Thursday staged a demonstration condemning an assault on a junior resident doctor two days ago.
The Resident Doctors Association, AIIMS Nagpur demanded that the institute adopt “no special treatment policy”, claiming that very often patients bring letters from politicians and expect privileges or try to intimidate the staff.
The protesters at the demonstration held placards with slogans such as “Stop VIP culture”, “No safety, no duty”, and “Stop violence against doctors”.
A resident doctor at the hospital was allegedly attacked by four persons inside the ICU on Tuesday following the death of a relative during treatment.
The accused were identified as Tejpal Singh, Uday Singh, Shubham Singh and Sumedh Singh.
A case was registered against them under the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act.
However, the Resident Doctors Association, in a letter to the Executive Director of AIIMS Nagpur, demanded that the institute itself should file a complaint in such cases.
It also demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators, and sought “no special treatment policy”.
The accused in the present case had used the name of an MP, it claimed, adding that the MP should make clear his stand.
