Jamshedpur, Sept 25 A 20-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to investigate the daylight robbery at a nationalised bank in Jamshedpur, police said on Friday.
A total of Rs 43 lakh in cash and gold was robbed at gunpoint from the Golmuri branch of Canara Bank in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district on Thursday, they said.
Five youths, wearing raincoats, entered the bank and held the staff and customers hostage before fleeing with the cash and gold, they added.
The robbers escaped on two motorcycles after committing the crime, police said.
SP (Rural) Subham Kumar Khandelwal, who is holding additional charge of SP (City) and heading the SIT, said, “We have examined the CCTV footage and gathered some inputs about the robbers.
A massive search operation has been launched to track down the perpetrators, with neighbouring police stations alerted, he said.
