Itanagar, Sept 25 The Arunachal Pradesh government has authorised the early release of September salaries, wages and pension benefits in view of a proposed three-day bank strike, officials said on Friday.
According to an order issued by Joint Secretary (Budget) Ikar Birchi on Thursday, the government approved the drawal of monthly salaries for regular employees, wages for casual, contingency and contractual staff, besides pension and retirement benefits, on September 25.
The order cited an office memorandum issued by the Ministry of Finance, which flagged the possibility of disruption to banking services between September 28 and 30 due to the proposed strike.
All treasury officers, sub-treasury officers, drawing and disbursing officers (DDOs) and regional banking authorities have been directed to strictly comply with the instructions, treating the matter as most urgent, it said.
The strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body of major bank employee unions. The unions are primarily seeking implementation of a five-day workweek with all Saturdays as holidays, on par with the Reserve Bank of India, central government offices and the insurance sector.
