Meerut, Sep 25 Four employees of a de-addiction centre here were arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting an Army havildar to death at the facility, police said.
According to police, the mother of the deceased, a resident of Ahmadpur Chauroli in Gautam Buddh Nagar’s Jewar area, lodged a complaint at the T P Nagar police station on September 22, alleging that her son, Lalit, an Army havildar, died on September 18 after being assaulted at the de-addiction centre.
During the investigation, the police arrested Sudhir Kumar, Sagar, Dashrath and Karanveer, all employees of Aashi Foundation De-Addiction Centre in Vedvyaspuri.
The four were responsible for monitoring patients admitted to the centre, they said.
According to the police, the accused told investigators that Lalit was a new patient at the centre and had repeatedly tried to leave the facility at night after becoming restless.
An argument and scuffle followed, during which the accused allegedly assaulted him in anger, after which he died, the police said.
Police said evidence is being collected to verify the accused’s statements and further legal action is being taken.
