Jaipur, Sep 26 Rajasthan Assembly Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully on Saturday said the Congress would now take its fight to the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections after giving the BJP a tough contest in the recently concluded urban local body polls.
Jully claimed that Congress workers had given sleepless nights to the BJP in the civic polls and would intensify their campaign in rural Rajasthan.
In the 309 urban local body elections, including ten municipal corporations, held in September, the BJP formed boards in over 200 local bodies.
“We gave the BJP sleepless nights in the urban local body elections and will make them see stars during the day in the Panchayat elections,” Jully said in a statement.
He alleged that the BJP government had deployed its entire machinery during the civic elections, with the chief minister, several ministers and senior party leaders campaigning extensively.
Despite this, the Congress gave the BJP a tough fight in several important urban local bodies, he claimed.
He said issues concerning farmers, irrigation, rural employment, water and rural development would be raised during the elections.
Jully said farmers in several areas were facing difficulties related to cultivation and irrigation due to inadequate rainfall and alleged that sufficient irrigation water was not available to them.
“Congress workers will continue to fight for democracy, the Constitution and people’s rights,” Jully said, adding that the party organisation would take issues concerning farmers, workers, youths and rural families to the people ahead of the Panchayat polls.
