Mangaluru (Karnataka), Sep 26 Five students were injured after a wall collapsed during a gathering at Rama Laxminarayan Convention Hall here on Saturday, police said.
The injured were admitted to Highland Hospital in Mangaluru, according to Commissioner of Police Anupam Agarwal.
Those injured have been identified as Mohammed Shamaj (16), Mohammed Shanan Ahmed (18), Haneef (23), Dawood Farsin Ahmed (18), and Mohammed Shakeel Hussain (18), police said, adding that they were students from the composite college.
Among the five injured, Shamaj has been shifted to the intensive care unit for further treatment. The hospital authorities said he is in critical condition.
According to police, preliminary information suggested that a number of students had gathered at the venue for a programme related to the ceremony of office-bearers of the college student union. Due to overcrowding, some students were standing in a corridor when they reportedly leaned against a wall.
The wall, which was apparently weak, collapsed, causing the students to fall and sustain injuries.
Police are ascertaining the circumstances leading to the collapse.
