Guwahati, Sept 25 A fire broke out at a market in Assam’s Golaghat district in the early hours of Friday, gutting four shops and destroying property estimated to be worth around Rs 70 lakh, police said.
The blaze was noticed around 1 am at the market in Bokakhat and quickly spread to nearby shops, including a garage, a computer shop, a salon and a hotel, they said.
The garage housed 15 motorcycles, all of which were gutted in the fire, police said.
Locals said they disconnected electricity connections in the area as a precautionary measure to prevent the flames from spreading.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, an official said.
