Buldhana (Maharashtra), Sep 23 Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad on Wednesday disapproved of flowers being laid out to welcome his party’s minister Sanjay Shirsat during his tour of drought-affected areas in central Maharashtra.
“When farmers are facing a crisis, accepting such welcome and flower garlands is not appropriate. Such displays and felicitations should be avoided. But people are not listening,” Gaikwad told reporters.
“When farmers are struggling to even afford oil to make chutney and there is no grain in their homes, it is not right for us to dress up, celebrate, and show off our extravagance,” the Buldhana MLA said.
A video of flowers being laid out for Social Justice Minister Shirsat when he visited a house in drought-hit Marathwada has gone viral and attracted criticism.
