Noida, Sep 23 Police have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with a road accident in Greater Noida West in which a 40-year-old lawyer was killed and his wife was injured, officials said on Wednesday.
Accused Ashish Paul was arrested by the Bisrakh police using local intelligence and electronic surveillance, they added.
The accident occurred near the Cherry County Society under the Bisrakh police station area on Monday, when a Mahindra Thar car allegedly being driven negligently hit a scooter carrying Neeraj Kumar and his wife, Nishi Srivastava. The driver fled the spot after the accident, police said.
The injured couple were taken to a hospital for treatment. Kumar later died during treatment, while his wife remains admitted at a private hospital in Noida, police said.
An FIR was registered at the Bisrakh police station on a complaint from a family member of the deceased under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 125(b) (act endangering life or personal safety or others) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said the Mahindra Thar, bearing registration number UP14GB7267, was seized from near the accident site.
