Thane, Sep 23 The crime branch of Thane Police has arrested a notorious criminal for his alleged involvement in multiple cases of chain snatching and police impersonation, officials said on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarsingh Jadhav said the crackdown led to the solving of 22 separate criminal cases registered across various police stations in Thane, Dombivli, Kalyan, Badlapur, and Bhiwandi. Gold and silver ornaments valued at Rs 32.30 lakh were recovered from the accused.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammad Zakir Sayyed alias Mohammad Sanga alias Mammu Irani, a resident of Rashid Compound in Mumbra (Thane).
Irani has previously been named in 20 cases of chain snatching and police impersonation across Thane, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai, Ahilyanagar and in parts of Gujarat, police said.
Further investigation is underway, police added.
