Idukki (Keralam), Sep 25 A group of Youth Front (M) activists on Friday staged a black-flag protest against Chief Minister V D Satheesan as his convoy headed to Kattappana in this high-range district, police said.
The protest was against a recent order issued by the district Collector directing measures to restore traditional elephant corridors in the district, they said.
According to police, four protesters waited on a remote hill road and waved black flags and raised slogans as the CM’s convoy passed by. They soon left the spot, and no arrests have been made so far, police said.
Youth Front (M) is the youth wing of Kerala Congress (M), a key constituent of the opposition LDF.
A man was recently killed in a wild elephant attack at Chinnakanal, triggering protests by residents. Following the incident, the district Collector issued an order directing farmers to remove fences erected in forest-fringe areas to ensure that traditional elephant corridors were not obstructed, sources said.
